St Richard's Hospice

Winner of the Healthcare project of the year at the Structural Timber Awards 2021, The Green at St Richard's Hospice has been designed to provide a new central courtyard at the heart of the hospice, where patients, carers along with their families can meet others and relax.

Working together with Speller Metcalfe, Constructional Timber (Manufacturers) Limited was tasked with the manufacture and supply of this amazing structure. The GL28h Spruce Glulam was finished with a coat of Osmo 420 UV protection.  The Gridshell Glulam structure utilises natural light where possible which assists in bringing out the natural colours in the timber along with drastically reducing energy costs.

The aim of this project was to promote Sustainability, all the Glulam used in this project was 100% PEFC certified. The environmental benefits were a big appeal to the client and the aesthetics of the material helped in visualising their eco-friendly approach. This in combination with the natural light it provides has helped in opening the space creating a bright and vivid environment.
